Abstract From the Canadian patent

A liquid pigmented (meth)acrylate-functional photocurable coating composition adapted for the secondary coating of optical glass fiber is disclosed. This photocurable composition has a pigment content which is sufficient to provide a coloration which can be distinguished from other colors and in the absence of a significant excess of said pigment, the particles of the pigment have a size of less than about 1 micron, and an acyl phosphine oxide photoinitiator is used to obtain a rapid photocure despite the presence of the pigment the composition's normal thickness used for optical fiber coating, and the fine particle size of the pigment.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 11, 1990 and granted May 1, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 11, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 11, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
