Abstract From the Canadian patent

A shaft torsion monitor comprises a plurality of sensors for sensing the angular position of various portions of the shaft under dynamic conditions and for producing sets of data representative of the sensed angular positions. A memory is provided for periodically storing one of the sets of data representative of the angular position of the various portions of the shaft in the absence of torsion. Circuitry is provided for subtracting the stored set of data from each of the other sets of data to eliminate the effects of noise. The resulting data is analysed to determine the torsion experienced by the shaft.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 7, 1990 and granted January 8, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 7, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 7, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
