Selective hydrogenation of the carbon-carbon double bonds of conjugated diene copolymers is effected in homogeneous solution in an organic solvent in the presence of certain divalent ruthenium carbonyl complex catalysts containing phosphine ligands having bulky alkyl substituents. The ruthenium catalysts have the general formula:, RuXY(CO)ZL2 -(1), or RuX(NO)(CO)L2 -(2) wherein X is a halogen atom, most preferably chlorine or a carboxylate group, Y is a halogen atom more, preferably chlorine, a hydrogen atom a phenyl group, a, carboxylate group or phenylvinyl group Z is carbonyl, pyridine, benzonitrile, trimethylphosphite or no ligand and L is a phosphine ligand having at least one bulky …

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 1, 1990 and granted October 22, 1996. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 1, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 1, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
