Various 2D and 3D diamond shaped filters for encoding and decoding NTSC, PAL and ATV signals are presented. The particularity of the proposed system is its separability: the desired filter configurations are composed of multiple simple ID filters operating individually in their own zero or oblique frequency axis. In comparison with existing diamond shaped filters the proposed systems offer substantial advantages low, complexity and better performance along the zero axes (horizontal, vertical and temporal) in the frequency domain.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 27, 1990 and granted December 3, 1996. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 27, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 27, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
