The present invention provides a corrosion resistant aluminum-based alloy consisting of a compound which has a composition represented by the general formula:, AlaMbNocHfdCre, wherein: M is at least one metal element selected from Ni, Fe and Co and a, b, c, d and e are atomic percentages falling within the following ranges:, 50% ~ a ~ 88%, 2% ~ b ~ 25%, 2% ~ c ~ 15% 4%, ~ d ~ 20% and 4% ~ e ~ 20%, the compound being at least 50% by volume composed of an amorphous phase. The aluminum-based alloys not only have a high degree of hardness strength and heat resistance but also exhibit significantly improved corrosion resistance.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 24, 1990 and granted September 30, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 24, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 24, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
