Abstract From the Canadian patent

An automatic tracking system for a magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus is provided means for varying a phase relationship between a magnetic head and a recording track and for monitoring the level of signals reproduced by a magnetic head at various phase relationships and means, for detecting an optimal point which is centriod of the reproduced signal levels. The automatic tracking system further includes means for controlling a tape feed speed so as to establish the phase relationship of the magnetic head and the recording track, which phase relationship corresponds to an optimal phase relationship.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 12, 1990 and granted December 14, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 12, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 12, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
