Abstract From the Canadian patent

An echo cancellation modem having a fast training echo canceller in which the echo cancellation coefficients are computed by taking correlations between a complex periodic, training signal sequence and a real component of the corresponding echo signal. The modem includes a receiver circuit for detecting a signal on a channel possibly including an echo; an echo canceller for estimating the real component of the echo signal; training circuitry for applying the complex training sequence to the channel and for taking correlations between the training sequence and the real component of the corresponding echo signal. The modem also includes a computational element for computing the period of the …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 4, 1990 and granted January 20, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 4, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 4, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
