Abstract From the Canadian patent

This invention relates to a method for the separation of stereoisomers of 7-hydroxy-furo3,4-cpyridine derivatives of the formula, wherein R3, R4 and R6 represent various substituents which, comprises reacting a fully O-acetylated monosaccharide halogenide with a racemate of the selected 7-hydroxy-furo3,4-cpyridine derivative to form the (+), and (-) (O-acetylated monosaccharide) (furo3,4-c pyridine 7-yl derivative) ethers, then separating the (+) and the (-) ethers by selective crystallization in an, hydroalcoholic medium, either of the acetylated forms or of the corresponding desacetylated forms and finally, working, up each of the separated derivatives by the usual routes.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 2, 1990 and granted July 2, 1996. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 2, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 2, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
