A marine engine exhaust system and method utilizes first and second enclosed, generally tubular chambers having generally parallel lengthwise dimensions and internal intermediate exhaust passageways spaced along the lengthwise dimension of the second chamber for circulating the exhaust gases through the first chamber, laterally through the intermediate exhaust passageways into the second chamber along the lengthwise dimension of the second chamber and thence out of an outlet exhaust passageway which passes through the second chamber wall and may also extend through a cooling water-collecting portion of the first chamber to achieve maximum muffling of the exhaust gas noise.

Why it's free to use
- Filed March 23, 1990 and granted February 2, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended March 23, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 23, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
