Abstract From the Canadian patent

According to this invention, pulps can be produced in high yields while saving energy by using previously fiberizing wood chips as the original material and then, treating the fiberized wood chips with new microorganisms having high lignin-degrading activity and low fiberdegrading activity upon the wood, the microorganisms capable of degrading lignin in the original material to various degrees to produce different types of pulp. In addition, new lignin-degrading enzymes produced by a microorganism used in this invention were identified.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed March 15, 1990 and granted June 11, 1996. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended March 15, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 15, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
