A system for monitoring a grounding system is permanently installed in, for example, a telephone switching office. The system operates to scan a large number of ground conductors at the master ground bar by using amplified Hall-effect sensors to monitor AC and DC current on the conductors. If a surge enters the telephone switching office, the surge is coupled to ground. The system monitors these ground conductors to insure that the ground system is operating properly. The microprocessor continuously insures that readings are taken of the current on each of the ground conductors. The microprocessor compares the current readings with preset parameters. If a reading exceeds the predetermined …

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 23, 1990 and granted June 14, 1994. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 23, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 23, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
