Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method and apparatus for measuring AC power, in which a measured digital value of an AC voltage is decomposed into two components with a phase difference of 90° therebetween, while a measured digital value of an AC current is decomposed into two components with a phase difference of 90° therebetween, and a scalar product of a first vector consisting of the two components of the AC voltage and a second vector consisting of the two components of the AC current is calculated. The scalar product thus calculated represents active power carried by the AC current at the AC voltage. Separately, absolute value of vector product of the first vector and the second vector may be calculated, which …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 14, 1990 and granted September 13, 1994. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 14, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 14, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
