Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method and apparatus are disclosed for closed-loop phase modulation to measure rate and control phase modulator gain errors in an electrical signal representing the phase difference between first and second light signals from lightwaves counterpropagating in an interferometric rotation sensor including a closed light path with a phase modulator in the path. The disclosed method and apparatus correct phase modulator gain in a way that is independent of rate.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 12, 1990 and granted June 16, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 12, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 12, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
