Glass-like monoliths constituted by silicon oxide and titanium oxide are prepared by means of the hydrolysis of a titanium halide, addition of the so obtained solution to silicon alkoxide, gelation of the resulting colloidal solution, drying of the consequent alcogel and end sintering. among the so-obtained glass-like monoliths which, may contain up to 60 mol % of titanium oxide those with, a content of titanium oxide higher than or equal to, 10%, are interesting. They are characterized by a high transparency, a low coefficient of thermal expansion and, in that they are amorphous within a wide range of temperature.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 9, 1990 and granted May 29, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 9, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 9, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
