Aqueous emulsions of curable silicone compositions provide cured coatings having improved gloss and/or water-repellancy and/or adhesive release if formulated to contain polyvinylalcohol having a degree of hydrolysis of 90 mol% or more. The extent of improvement is directly related to the degree of hydrolysis of the PVA. PVA having an average degree of hydrolysis of from 94 to 99 mol% is particularly effective for improving these properties of cured coatings. Conveniently a mixture of two or more commercially available PVAs having different degrees of hydrolysis can be used to arrive at a PVA having a desired degree of hydrolysis.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 5, 1990 and granted October 12, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 5, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 5, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
