A data processing system operates in a production line fashion in which a number of units in the system each performs a different operation on each instruction going down the production pipeline. Certain types of instructions are executed by an earlier unit and dropped out of the production line while other types of instructions are executed at the end of the production line thereby improving the overall throughput of the system.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 18, 1989 and granted May 31, 1994. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 18, 2009.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 18, 2011.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
