Hot-melt adhesives based upon a mixture composed of poly(vinylmethylether), greater than 50 weight percent of a thermoplastic resin, and optionally a tackifier resin are found to be superior for the binding of polyolefins such as polyethylene, polypropylene, or ethylene-propylene copolymers to themselves and to other substrates. In particular, the hot-melt adhesives are useful for bonding polyethylene-backed and latex-backed carpet to polyethylene, polypropylene, or ethylene-propylene copolymer.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 6, 1989 and granted April 29, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 6, 2009.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 6, 2011.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
