The clamp is intended to be attached to a vertical pole such as a hydro pole or a telephone pole and has a jaw which slides into and out of contact with a cable such as an electrical conductor. A stud mates threadably with the jaw and rotates about an axis oriented generally normal to the longitudinal axis of the cable. The stud causes the jaw to move in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the stud. The stud may be rotated from the ground by means of a wrench attached to a long handle.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 5, 1989. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 5, 2009.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 5, 2011.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
