Abstract From the Canadian patent

A garment for holding a removable absorbent core is disclosed. The garment does not require separate fastening means to hold the core in position. The garment features two tapered flaps which overlay the core to retain it in the desired position and obviate the necessity of separate fastening means. The flaps are monotonically tapered to provide maximum overlap of the core at the rear waist margin of the garment for greater frictional, engagement with the core and less core overlap at the front waist margin of the garment, to provide a larger urine target zone.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 4, 1989 and granted July 22, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 4, 2009.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 4, 2011.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
