Alpha-alumina monohydrate (boehmite) crystals and crystal aggregates of a size and form suitable for use in soft polishing formulations are obtained by the organic oxidation of caustic aluminate liquors under hydrothermal conditions using greatly reduced copper catalyst concentration. The resulting boehmite aggregates are well suited for use in for, example, soft polishing applications where both cutting and finishing actions are required in a single formulation.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 6, 1989. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 6, 2009.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 6, 2011.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
