Abstract From the Canadian patent

Abstract of the Disclosure, The present invention involves a highly specific chemical system for detecting parasite-infected cells. The method is especially effective in detecting intraerythrocytic diseases, especially malaria. With respect to malaria chemical, agents are used to detect enzymes produced by the infecting parasites. Blood samples are combined with a plurality of substrates which are subject to enzymatic hydrolysis. Hydrolysis is rapid and may be detected in two ways. The first method involves substrates having a fluorescent detecting group. Upon hydrolysis, the fluorescent group is cleaved and detected using a conventional fluorescent light source. Alternatively substrates …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 26, 1989. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended October 26, 2009.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 26, 2011.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
