Abstract From the Canadian patent

An optical fiber composite insulator comprises a hollow insulator body having an axial through-hole and at least one optical fiber extended through the throughhole and hermetically sealed to the inner surface of the through-hole by a sealing material. A relationship between a condition of the inner surface of the throughhole and the sealing material, a relationship between the inner diameters of the through-hole and the outer diameter of the hollow insulator body or a coating material on the optical fiber are selected to provide high insulating property, mechanical strength and airtight property of the optical fiber composite insulator.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 13, 1989 and granted October 25, 1994. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 13, 2009.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 13, 2011.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
