Fabric treatment composition comprising a fabric-softening material and a benzimidazolyl-alkyl-carbamate of the following formula:, (see fig. I), where R1 is a C1-4 alkyl alkoxy or phenoxy alkyl; and, R2 is a C1-4 alkyl hydrogen, nitrogen or halogen. Compositions as claimed are particularly efficient in inhibiting microbial growth on fabrics which have been rinsed with said fabric treatment composition.
