Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention concerns a catalyst for processing the exhaust of internal combustion engine gases as well as a process for producing the catalyst. The monolith catalyst includes a support or substrate coated with a porous layer impregnated with a catalytically active phase. According to the invention the porous layer includes alumina, a rare earth oxide such as cerium oxide and a spinel-type compound presenting a specific surface between 50 m2/g and 300 m2/g. According to the invention the catalyst is especially advantageous because it presents good thermal stability and tolerates the presence of sulphur or sulphur compounds in exhaust gases. ",
