The present invention is directed to a form of the human gamma T cell antigen receptor polypeptide termed Form 2bc, which has a molecular weight of about 40,000 daltons and comprises a constant region containing a sequence encoded by only two C.gamma.2 CII exon copies. The invention also relates to T cell antigen receptor heterodimers comprising the Form 2bc gamma polypeptide, and to nucleic acid sequences encoding the Form 2bc gamma polypeptide and portions thereof. Also provided is a method for producing expression of a gamma, delta T cell antigen receptor heterodimer.
