Abstract From the Canadian patent

A process is disclosed for the preparation of N-phosphonomethylglycine which comprises bringing together under reaction conditions glyoxylic acid or a derivative thereof and an N-acylaminomethylphosphonic acid represented by the formula, wherein R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl having from one to about 6 carbon atoms halo-alkyl having from one to about six carbon atoms benzyl and phenyl.
