Fluorine-containing polyols obtained by the free radical addition of a fluoro-olefin having the general formula:, (see fig. 1), wherein Y represents F and Z represents C1 or F(CF2) nwherein n is an integer from 0 to 10 or Y and Z together form a -(CF2) m- chain wherein m represents an integer from 2 to 4 to a polyol wherein each hydroxyl group is directly attached to a group of the formula: -(CH2)pO - (2), wherein p is an integer of at least 4.
