A sustained release pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmacologically active agent in admixture with a) microcrystalline cellulose and b) hydroxypropyl methylcellulose wherein the weight ratio of a) to b) is at least 1 to 1 is described. Aspirin is the preferred active agent.
