The present invention resides in an improved system for building and handling stacks of signatures which comprises a stacker which receives signatures and builds the same into stacks; a container means comprising a plurality of cells, each cell being adapted to hold a stack of signatures; a conveyor means for transferring said container means to said stacker and for moving said container means away from said stacker; said stacker comprising a loading means for loading a stack of signatures into a cell; said conveyor means comprising indexing means adapted to position each cell of the container means successively at said loading means.
