The clamp foot of a programmable, industrial sewing machine is made to hold a workpiece in which a pattern of stitches is to be formed according to a recorded program. The needle of such machines operates in a fixed location and the clamp foot moves the workpiece around on the sewing surface of the machine according to the stitching program to create the desired pattern. Different configurations or sizes of workpieces require different clamp feet, and it is essential that they be changed quickly.
