Improved shrink, toughness and barrier properties are achieved by a multi-layer, thermoplastic shrink film having a, substrate layer of very low density polyethylene and a gas barrier layer of vinylidene chloride copolymer or ethylene-vinyl-alcohol. A thermoplastic polymeric layer is located on the side of the barrier layer opposite to the polyethylene layer. The film is particularly useful for making bags for packaging large cuts of fresh red meat.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 26, 1992 and granted December 14, 1993. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 26, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 26, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
