The battery of the present invention comprises a container having a plurality of cells including at least two positive terminal cells and at least one negative terminal cell. Each cell of the battery contains a plurality of alternating positive and negative electrode plates containing active material. The positive electrode plates of each positive terminal cell are electrically connected to their associated positive terminal. The negative electrode plates of both cells are connected to a common negative terminal.
