Disclosed is a material for preventing the entry of roots into unwanted areas such as waste burial cites underground, pipelines, basement and sidewalks. The material comprises a sheet of water-permeable material carrying distributed bodies of polymer containing a root-repellant 2,6-dinitroaniline compound preferably together with carbon black. Because of the shape the material, may be applied uniformly and quickly and the 2,6-dinitroaniline, compound is slowly released over many years for example, 50 to, 100 years.
