An apparatus for the production of small clear ice bodies comprises an evaporator having freezer cells which are open at their bottoms and which are cooled by a refrigerant pipe. The interspaces between the freezer cells are covered by strips of insulating material. On the outside of the insulating material are arranged defrosting components comprising hot-gas pipes, and metal strips. Water is sprayed out of a trough into the freezer cells by means of a spraying device in the form of a bucket wheel which rotates about a horizontal shaft and which comprises two parallel circular discs between which are arranged concave splash blades.
