Case 6798, ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE, ALUMINA-BASED CATALYSTS THEIR PRODUCTION, AND USE, An alumina-based composition for use as a catalyst is obtained from a composition comprising an alumina having a bulk density of at least 0.6g/ml and a pore volume of less than 0.6ml/g a sintering, agent and a refractory oxide of a rare earth metal by sintering the composition at a temperature of at least 1000°C.
