A coaxial cigarette comprising an inner core of a material glowing away substantially without residue in particular, tobacco material, with a sheath for the inner core an, outer jacket coaxially surrounding the inner core and its sheath and comprising a tobacco and/or non-tobacco material and a sheath for the outer jacket, has a diameter of the inner core which lies in the range from 45% to 80% of the outer diameter of the coaxial cigarette; the inner core has a packing density in the range from 300 to 400 mg/cm3; the outer jacket has a packing density in the range from 170 to 250 mg/cm3.
