Abstract From the Canadian patent

A bone plate in particular a small bone plate has two plate portions that are longitudinally displaceable relative to each other and include screw holes for bone screws. Gear means between the plate portions adjust the relative position of the plate portions. The plate portions have guide portions longitudinally slidable within a guide member at least one of the, guide portions including a rack. A gear or pinion is rotatably supported within the guide member engaged by the rack and has a tool-engaging surface.
