The invention relates to a variable capacity compressor for use in automobile air conditions, for example. The variable compressor allows the cooling capacity to be continuously changed with fine control of the cooling capacity as required. The variable compressor comprises an enclosure having cylindrical internal space. A cylindrical-shaped rotor is rotatably held in the enclosure and driven by an external force and has vanes. Plural return ports are formed on a wall of volume-decrease-step space in the internal space wherein the volume of sectioned space by movements of the rotor and the vanes is changed cyclically.
