A transmitter and associated receiver interrogate the surface of a rotor at one or more radial positions from the center of rotation using emitted pulses of energy. Signature signals representative of the distance traveled by the pulses collectively form a signature signal pattern which is compared to a reference library of such signature signal patterns. Each pattern in the library represents one of a predetermined plurality of rotors. The comparison of the detected pattern with the patterns in the library generates an indicator signal containing information representative of the identity of the interrogated rotor.

Why it's free to use
- Granted November 17, 1992. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended November 17, 2009.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
