The invention is the use of standing waves to generate a well log. By measuring changes in energy dissipation from the standing wave along the well-bore, the formation may be evaluated for permeability variations. Variations in the tube wave velocity may be determined from variations in the frequency of a standing tube wave having a selected wave length. Shear wave velocity of the surrounding formation may be determined from the tube wave velocity.

Why it's free to use
- Granted November 10, 1992. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended November 10, 2009.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
