Abstract From the Canadian patent

An electro-optic waveguide device comprises an assembly of waveguides connected to a common light input region and forming a common far field diffraction pattern. The device comprises an n+ GaAs substrate bearing a waveguide lower cladding layer of n+ Ga0.9Al0.1As, which is in turn surmounted by a waveguide core layer of n- GaAs. The layer has grooves defining the waveguides each of, which has a respective Schottky contact. Each contact is biased negative with respect to the substrate, which reverse biases the respective Schottky diode waveguide structure. The waveguide core layer has electro-optic properties and, its refractive index varies with electric field. The phase of light emerging …

Why it's free to use

  • Granted November 3, 1992. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended November 3, 2009.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
