An improvement in a process for the preparation of resorcinol which includes the steps of treating an extract of selected oxidation products of diisopropylbenzene with hydrogen peroxide to convert m-HHP to m-DHP, drying the treated extract and thereafter, decomposing the m-DHP in the presence of an effective amount, preferably within the range of about 10 to 50 ppm of a, catalyst selected from the group consisting of born trifluoride ferric chloride and stannic chloride.
