Abstract From the Canadian patent

Abstract. The invention provides a method for producing an optical fiber having a surface coating of a UV-curable resin. The method comprises the following steps. An optical fiber is spun from a molten preform and a UV curable resin is applied to the surface of the fiber to form a resin coating. The coated fiber is passed through a container having UV transparent walls containing a gas for promoting the curing of the resin upon exposure to UV light. A layer of fluid material is provided outside the walls moving past the container at a predetermined flow rate. The fluid material contains at least two UV light-absorbing materials which have different absorbing wavelengths. The resin on the …

Why it's free to use

  • Granted August 18, 1992. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended August 18, 2009.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
