For application of a coating of a non-ferrous metal such as for example, zinc, on the surface of rolled steel to increase resistance to corrosion it is proposed that the rolling steel be descaled in direct continuation of the rolling process from the rolling heat by the use of water under pressure and directly after descaling, to prevent re-formation of scale that it be, cooled rapidly by the use of water to a temperature suitable for hot application of the coating and that finally the coating be applied.
