A forming die assembly is disclosed for rapidly forming a foam sheet. The die assembly comprises a lower die body containing at least one cavity. The body has flow passages provided therein for flowing a fluid through the body to cool the die body. The cavity has a plurality of passages intersecting the cavity surface. Conduits are connected to the passages and intersect the die body cavity for withdrawing air from the cavity. An upper die unit includes a frame which is adapted for clamping the foam sheet against the lower die body. A plug is incorporated into the upper die unit and shaped for mating closely within the cavity of the lower die body. The plug contains flow passages therein …
