Nitrocellulose strips having recombinant HIV envelope glycoprotein, HIV gp160, spotted and fixed thereon are useful for the detection of antibody to AIDS virus (HIV). A dye, such as coomassie bluer noncovalently attached to the glycoprotein and to the strip is usefully associated with the glycoprotein to identify the location of the glycoprotein spotted and fixed to the strip.
