The invention is directed to a device for generating an optical collimating beam having a defined angle with respect to a base when mounted thereon even in the presence of extreme mechanical and thermal loads. The device can be used for testing long guideways on machine tools for example. The, device includes a housing wherein a collimator is mounted in a form-tight manner for imaging a collimating mark out to infinity. The collimator is configured as a mirror system and includes several components connected tightly to each other.
