Short-chain polyethylene glycol ethers corresponding to the formula:, R1-O-(CH2CH2O)n - R2, wherein: R1 is a linear or branched C6-C18 alkyl or alkenyl radical, R2 is a C4-C8 alkyl radical, and n is an integer of from 2 to 6, are used as foam-inhibiting additives for low-foam cleaning compositions.
