The method of combating bacterial infection of fish which comprises supplying to such fish or to their water an antibacterially effective amount of a quinoline derivative, salt or hydrate thereof of the formula, in which, R1 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl or lower hydroxy alkyl group, and, R2 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl group.
