A turbo-molecular vacuum pump has a high vacuum side and a fore vacuum side in the form of a molecular pump in which the rotor and stator are conical or frusto-conical with the rotor surface having a helical groove and the axial bearing for the rotor being located at the real or imaginary apex of the rotor cone.
